Knitting

Marlie’s Anders

December 2, 2015 by Jen Luker

I’m taking this as my strung along project.

11-28-2015

Realizing I’d both used the wrong needle and that my yarn was running out, I ended up knitting 20 rows per sleeve before starting edging.

My boss, Brian, teases me incessantly about needing to knit the team something. This year his target is Christmas stockings. I think this will do.

Notes

foot is 3” long before toe.

Toe Row 8: k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k2, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1
Bind off by threading tail through stitches and pulling tight. Tie off.

Marlie’s Bon Bon Mittens

December 2, 2015 by Jen Luker

We were wandering around outside at sub-freezing temperatures when I realized my toddler’s hands were both bare and cold. That simply won’t do! I’m casting on mittens RIGHT NOW!

Ribbing

Work 8 rows of ribbing instead of 6.

Gusset

To make gusset stitch count work, I knitted rows 0, 1, 2, 1, then on the next round, I put thumb stitches on holder and cast on 3.

Thumb

slip held stitches onto a needle, then pick up 5 stitches from hand. Purl the last of these 5 stitches together with the first of the thumb stitches. Purl around to the last of the thumb stitches, then purl 2 together through back loop with the first of the hand stitches. Purl 3. Place marker.

Regular Guy Toe Up Socks

October 14, 2015 by Jen Luker

My husband has wide feet with wide toes, so I used the same modified toe for Steelhead, and a smaller needle.

Judy’s magic cast-on using magic loop.
CO 16 sts per needle.
Increase to 68 sts as pattern designates.
Work 7 rounds even.
Switch colors, k1 round. Start pattern with round 1.

As there are now 4 more stitches than the pattern calls for, I worked the k2, p2 rib across the top beginning and ending with the k2, then worked stockinette across the bottom. This means the ribbing pattern doesn’t start at the sides of his feet, but more towards the top. this is important when his shoes press so strongly against the sides of his feet to begin with.

I worked the heel as written which is 2 more rows than called for because of the stitch increase.

I also added two stitches on each side of the leg in the MC after finishing the heel, then p2tog/ssp the following round. This removed any holes that may have occurred on each side of the heel.

I ended up working 76 rows of ribbing on the leg.
